BabyGrow Makes a Great Gift

Know an iPhone-toting parent-to-be? Want to give them a gift that they will value and enjoy, but won’t break the bank? BabyGrow is just the thing!

As of last March, you can now give iPhone apps as gifts. It’s easy! Find the app you wish to gift in the iTunes App Store (BabyGrow, right?). If you’re shopping on an iPhone or iPod touch, there’s a nice big button towards the bottom of the app page that says “Gift This App”:

Or, if you’re using iTunes, click the disclosure arrow next to the “Buy App” button and pick “Gift This App”:

Either way, the app store will walk you through the rest of the process. It couldn’t be easier, and the lucky recipient will enjoy being able to keep track of their new baby’s growth - thanks to you!

BabyGrow 1.7 - Now Available!

I am proud to announce that BabyGrow 1.7 has been released and is now available on the iTunes App Store! I’d like to highlight 3 great new features:

  • Support for the Retina display on the new iPhone 4. Everything looks great on the new iPhone 4, and BabyGrow is no exception! A tip for those of you switching to the iPhone 4 from an older device: Versions of BabyGrow prior to 1.7 only stored low resolution versions of your cute little babies’ photos. So to really take advantage of the Retina display, you’ll want to pick some new photos.
  • The charts have been enhanced with some new features: You can now zoom in and have a closer look at the data, and there’s also a new legend to help you make heads and tails of things.
  • The percentile calculations are now more accurate.

One more thing, and I think you’re really going to like this: BabyGrow now supports backing up your data using Dropbox. If you don’t already have an account with Dropbox, I’d recommend you head on over and set one up now. You get 2GB free, and it is a wonderful service. And, by the way, if you sign up using that link, you’ll get an extra 250MB free! I signed up just so I could see if it was a good fit for BabyGrow (it was, obviously!) and now I use it for all sorts of things.

Once you have an account, using it to backup your BabyGrow data is easy! Here’s a quick walkthrough to help you out:

  1. Touch the gears to head into the Settings screen:

  2. Touch “Backup”:

  3. Since this is your first time, you’ll need to enter your Dropbox username and password. BabyGrow will log you in automatically in the future.
  4. Touch “Start Backup”:

  5. Sit back and relax knowing your data is now safely backed up.

Now, what if the unthinkable happens and you lose all of the data on your iPhone? Or, perhaps you bought a shiny new iPhone 4 and you want to get your data onto it? Thanks to BabyGrow’s new Dropbox backup feature, it’s no problem!

  1. Touch the gears to head into the Settings screen:

  2. Touch “Restore”:

  3. You’ll get a nice listing of every backup you’ve got stored in your Dropbox - touch the one you want:

  4. Let BabyGrow know this is what you really want to do:
